Second Editions and New Beginnings

The second addition of “Y”City has just come out.

It is going into a few local stores and will be in most Hastings across the state before too long.  Yeah!  My first book signing will be in Mena on August the 28th at the Skyline Café which is of course in the book.  I am looking forward to meeting everyone then, and of course enjoying a fine breakfast with lots of homemade gravy!  See ya there.

To update you a bit, “Y”City has had some “lookers”.

That’s of course another name for Hollywood producers.  Nothing has been finalized; in fact I am a long way from that.  Money is of course one issue, but there are other issues as well.  I have told everyone that the movie will be made in Mena.  It is a stage waiting for the cameras.  Not a better location could be found and even if there were, I want the movie to be true to the book and to the people.  We’ll see.

I did go to New York to pursue an agent.  One of my faults is that I tend to take on too much myself and it is obvious that I am suppose to write and not promote.  I will do what ever I have to of course and things will happen as they should, when the timing is right.  But I personally would like an agent who can take care of these things while I write.  Here again, finding the right mesh is the key.  I don’t want to take the first deal just to have a deal, nor do I want my work in the hands of people who are not a respecter of quality.  Here again, money is important but I won’t be happy is my work is turned into trash.  This again will take time and am confident it will all work out.

For all the people who have enjoyed “Y”City and have sent emails, I thank you.  Believe me when I am writing I do think of what others think.  I don’t care about critics but I care about people.  No one writes strictly for themselves.  Every artist, musician, writer or what have you seeks to establish a rapport with others.  Their method is their means of communication.  Same with me.  So, when you communicate back, and express your pleasure, that motivates me to communicate more.  There is a relationship that begins to build, which leads me to my second book, Thrillervision.

Thrillervision will be out soon...

We're hoping for an October 1 launch.  There is not another book like it.  And I can’t wait for your response.  Thrillervision is really three books in one, so you are sure to get a great treat.  I didn’t originally intend to write a trilogy but it came together as one.  I had a collection of some great stories, thrillers, all suspenseful.  Then I got the idea of creating a book similar to a Saturday afternoon matinee.  As a kid we went to the theaters (when we could steal enough money) and watch the Saturday matinees.  Shows like King Kong and Godzilla were grouped together or Vincent Price movies played.  In between the shows were “fillers”, short clips like the Green Hornet.  Sometimes they even had cartoons which broke the monotony of prolong suspense.

Thrillervision came to resemble a matinee or better yet, the thrillers we watched at the drive-in theaters.  What you will like about Thrillervision is not just the stories but the way I speak to you in between the stories.  For fillers I used poetry and before you go “ugh”, don’t expect my poetry to be boring.  They are anything but.  They will grip you just like the stories do and you’ll be surprised at just how much of a story is put together in just a few lines.  It also allows you/me to take a look at a variety of subjects that you might not normally consider.  As a writer I use the best format for the subject, that’s why I write short stories as well as novels.  In some cases, there is an issue of great importance but it doesn’t take a novel to express it, in fact it is brevity that best defines what you are saying.

I don’t want to give away too much about Thrillervision.  I can say without reservation that it will change your world.  It will change the way you look at everything.  When it does come out I will start making the rounds doing book signings but I won’t do as many as before.  I am going to spend a lot more time writing and a lot less time traveling; therefore my emphasis is going to be from a marketing standpoint, using the internet a lot more.  Within six months of Thrillervision coming out there will be a second volumn.  So keep a look out.

That‘s all for now…
